    CAPSTONE PROJECT IN SPORT HOSPITALITY – As required during your final semester in the CHES Sport Hospitality Graduate Program and in selected courses, the graduate student must complete the Capstone Project in Sport Hospitality. Specific Requirements are listed below:

    Requirement of UA Graduate School · Submission of all required UA Graduate School forms http://graduate.ua.edu/forms.html and application for graduation must be completed online by second week of semester in which you are planning to graduate
    ·  Two attempts and graded as either PASS or FAIL! 

    Submission Guidelines 

    ELECTRONIC copy should consist of one (1) .PDF file of all materials used. (Can also make an electronic web link if preferred) 
    The 20+ page visually enhanced document must include a Table of Contents addressing all three areas (career documentation, professional experiences, & scholarship)
    The graduate student will have the opportunity to discuss their Capstone Project in Sport Hospitality to UA Sport Hospitality Faculty and Leadership Council, within 21 days of submission deadline. 


    Final DEADLINE Dates
    June 1 (August graduation)
    October 1 (December graduation)
    February 1 (May graduation)



    ​​Purposes of Capstone Project in Sport Hospitality  
    ·  Documentation of “Professional Development and Scholarly Achievement” in the Sport Industry, including critical thinking, written communication, and oral communication skills.
    ·  It requires each student to consider his or her “Professional Career Goals” in Sport Hospitality, and to clearly document evidence of professional growth.
    ·  The project provides each graduate student, as well as faculty and potential employer(s), with a “unique tool for assessing what each student has gained through their graduate studies.”



    Prerequisites include 
    ·   As required during your final semester in the CHES Sport Hospitality Graduate Program and in selected courses
    ·   Documentation of a minimal of 500+ fellowship hours in the sport industry

    “REQUIRED COMPONENTS” 
    Table of Contents
    Section 1: CAREER DOCUMENTATION (resume/vita and related items)
    ·   Personal information
    ·   Summary of qualifications
    ·   Education
    ·   Related Experiences (fellowships, internships, practicums, volunteer opportunities, etc.)
    ·   Honors and Awards
    ·   References
    ·   Cover Letter (applying for position) and Thank-You letter
    ·   Six (6) month and five (5) year career plan of your professional and personal life goals
    Section 2: PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES - Overview of Fellowship Experiences in the Sport Industry
    ·   Index page addressing ALL organization names, logos, websites
    ·   Describe each fellowship experience, outlining acquired KNOWLEDGE and SKILL in two (2) pages per each experience
    Section 3: SCHOLARSHIP (advanced level knowledge and ability to connect the theory to practice
    ·   PART A: Article/Abstract (publication and/or presentation) OR Grant/External Funding (grant funding should be no more than $15,000)
    ·   PART B: Project (relate academic content to specific job opportunity)
    Appendix could include academic group work from academic classes and experiences.
